Pangea is a community-based social platform designed to support immigrants and new arrivals in Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Pangea mobile application and related services.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), where applicable.

 

2. Information We Collect

A. Account Information

When you register using Google login (OAuth) or email/password, we may collect:

  • Full name or display name
  • Email address
  • Profile photo (if provided)
  • Encrypted password (if registering via email)
  • Account ID and authentication tokens

B. Profile Information

You may voluntarily provide:

  • Languages spoken
  • Cultural background or nationality
  • City (location is limited to city level only)
  • Interests
  • Biography
  • Professional or service information (if applicable)

Pangea does not collect precise GPS location data.

C. Content You Create

We collect information when you:

  • Post housing, jobs, services, or events
  • Upload photos (e.g., housing listings up to 10 images)
  • Create service or skill monetization listings
  • Send or receive messages via in-app chat
  • Leave reviews (if enabled)

D. Messaging (Chat)

Messages exchanged between users within the Pangea app are stored securely to enable communication and safety monitoring. We do not monitor private messages routinely, but we reserve the right to review content if required for safety, abuse prevention, or legal compliance.

E. Payments (Stripe)

If you subscribe to premium features:

  • Payments are processed securely by Stripe.
  • Pangea does not store full credit card details.
  • We may receive transaction confirmation, subscription status, and billing metadata from Stripe.

Stripe’s privacy practices are governed by Stripe’s own Privacy Policy.

F. Technical & Usage Data

We may collect:

  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • App version
  • Log data (e.g., errors, performance metrics)
  • IP address (used for security and fraud prevention)

 

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and operate the app
  • Enable login and authentication
  • Personalise feed content (based on city and language preferences)
  • Facilitate communication between users
  • Enable service directory and monetization features
  • Process subscriptions
  • Improve performance and user experience
  • Prevent fraud and misuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal information.

 

4. Disclosure of Information

We may share information:

• With other users (based on your profile visibility and posts)
• With service providers (including hosting providers, Base44 infrastructure, Stripe for payment processing, and analytics tools)
• If required by Australian law, regulation, or court order
• To protect safety, prevent unlawful activity, or enforce our terms
• In connection with a proposed investment, merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets. In such cases, we may share aggregated, anonymised, or de-identified information with potential investors, advisors, or partners. Any disclosure of personal information will be subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations and handled in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws.

Some service providers may process data outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

 

5. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including:

  • Secure authentication
  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
  • Restricted database access
  • Hosting through secure infrastructure providers

However, no online system is 100% secure.

If an eligible data breach occurs and is likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Australian law.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to:

  • Provide services
  • Maintain account integrity
  • Comply with legal requirements
  • Prevent fraud or abuse

You may request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 8).

 

7. Age Requirement

Pangea is intended for users aged 18 years and over.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.

 

8. Access, Correction & Deletion

You may:

  • Update profile information within the app
  • Request correction of inaccurate information

Upon verified request, we will delete or de-identify your personal information unless legally required to retain it.
